I managed to get my hands on a copy of Imogen Howson’s latest release…and it’s wonderful. It’s set in a world where shadows are to be feared. People sleep with lights as bright as possible, fear to walk through the forests if they are too dark, all because the Shadows might touch them. Fern, on her eighteenth birthday finds that she is a fire-starter, and that she possesses the one gift that will destroy the Shadows.
The book is a great read because it has romance…Fern and Nik do not seem to get a long at all at first, their relationship starts out very tense, but it evolves very well. I also love the wonderfully drawn cast of characters…the other residents of the training house that Fern goes to are really nifty. It was also a very spooky, atmospheric read. So, that was a pretty cool way to spend last night…it provided a much needed break, because I waded through well over a thousand emails, trying to make a To Do List. At least I now feel like I’m more in control of my life…
For now.
