So, one of my faculty shared a rather interesting article on Falconry. Then I thought, I have some friends who are celebrating the anniversary of Watership Down. And I thought, that is a rather heartless combination.  So I rushed to take it down. If you want to read a somewhat brutal but interesting article on modern falconry:  http://www.vqronline.org/reporting-articles/2015/10/lure-hunt If you want to read a rather fun interview with the guy who wrote Watership Down, …

OK, I am failing on my re-try of the happiness meme. Maybe I’ll just list, at random, things that make me happy when I become maudlin. Today is exciting because I’ll be spending half of it in a Doctor’s office reading…the ear Doctor who actually fixed the problem (my ears don’t drain right, it’s sort of like having swimmer’s ear all the time…) is very popular, and the wait is always an ice age …

The thing that made me smile the widest, today, is one of my former faculty members has me (and Sara, one of my former GAs and woman of magnificent loveliness) as answers on a test. According to 50% of his students, I started the women’s movement. That’s right…I started it, so y’all can either thank me or start throwing things… Sara, apparently, was the one, according to 25%. The rest, well, they got the …

It’s so hard to keep up with a blog sometimes…I was a bit over taken by life, so I apologize for the long time I was gone. First, some Pennsic Shots. There aren’t a lot…when you’re wandering around you see tons of cool stuff, but since this is supposed to be a medieval re-enactment, it’s kind of hard to whip out the camera and click the shutter. I carried it around with me everywhere, …

I’ve been trying to form the words for this post since I got home…I don’t want to forget anything, I want to capture the whole of the Pennsic experience, but I’m not sure how. Partly it’s because there are SO many different versions of Pennsic, because there are so many things you can do. There are classes galore (I forgot to take any, or didn’t have the time.) some people are really big into …

So, I am all ready.  I think. Plenty of clothes.  Enough food.  I look at the stack of stuff I’ve packed, this of what my father said about “light packing makes for a light heart”, feel like I’ve messed up, go through my stuff again, realize that I’ve packed about as tightly as a fencing, middle eastern dancing, wants to be prepared for all eventualities in a reasonable manner female can do.  Tomorrow, on …

I’ll be going to Pennsic next Monday.  As I mentioned in the past, I had been planning to go to the International Swordfighting and Martial Arts Convention in Michigan, but I couldn’t get the money for it.  *sniffles and waves pathetically at the fine gentlemen who run the convention…*  Pennsic, I can afford, and I’ll get to fight with swords there, too, so I will be happy…especially since Pennsic has more of my friends, …

First, the bad news.  Because I like to get the wretched out of the way…as I was driving home, I tried to make the sharp turn down into my road off the highway…and the steering wouldn’t answer, save for a tiny, tiny bit.  So, I stopped before I hit the stop sign, back and filled until I was straight on my road, and drove on home, wondering what was going on.  The car itself …

This post is backwards, chronologically, because really, what matters more this weekend than the fact that I am now an authorized SCA Light Rapier fencer? What follows: The story of my authorization and a lovely present that will encourage my belly dancing interest, and a time capsule (of sorts) found in the walls of my house…

I was speaking to my mum this morning, and we were talking about appointments. “You know, I have a hair appointment Wednesday,” I said, which surprised her because I never go to hair appointments, but, you know, sometimes I have pretensions towards acting like I’m a female member of the species. Then I thought for a moment, rolled up a newspaper, and handed it to her. “You should probably whack me when I say …
